Committees

Communications Team

Chaired by Vice-President. Provide timely and comprehensive information to chapter members about programs, workshops, and other matters of interest via chapter publications. Provide timely and comprehensive information and other matters of interest about the chapter to external resources. Create and maintain a favorable image of the chapter working for the professional development of its members by: (a) keeping membership informed of chapter projects, activities and upcoming meetings, and (b) disseminating relevant professional information viewed as beneficial to the members. Lead the Newsletter, Web Site, Public Relations, Sponsorship, Legislation, SIG/Networking, and Membership Roster committees.

Compensation

Provides membership with a resource for answering questions about compensation and related matters, and assists finding additional compensation information.

Diversity

Monitor and evaluate on a continuing basis local activities concerning diversity issues. Spearhead the effort to diversify the Chapter's membership/leadership and to publicize successful diversity programs in the local community. Provide a forum for members to participate in meetings, workshops, and SHRM events of interest.

Foundation

Educate, promote, and represent the interests of the SHRM Foundation and its activities to the Chapter.

Healthcare Forum

Manage the activities of the Healthcare Forum. Purpose is to provide an open exchange of current information, resources, education, and best practices regarding the ever changing healthcare landscape.

Hospitality

Coordinate the logistics of monthly membership meetings, including locating and arranging facilities for monthly meetings and special events, menu selection, reservation management, name badges, and check in. Welcome new members into the chapter, and greet members and guests at HRMA events.

International

Assist and promote the understanding of internationalization at the chapter level. Work closely with the State Council International Director (if applicable) and the SHRM Global Forum. Provide a forum for members to participate in meetings, workshops, and SHRM events of interest to the international and domestic HR communities.

Leadership Development Forum

Manage activities to provide various leadership development workshops that will help HR professionals to sharpen their leadership skills and identify ways in which they can initiate or support leadership development initiatives within their organizations.

Legislative

Monitor and evaluate on a continuing basis pending legislative, regulatory and legal action at the federal, state, and local level that may have an impact on the management of human resources. Present legislative updates to the chapter. Inform elected officials of SHRM's position on legislation affecting the human resources profession. Work in close cooperation with the State Public Affairs Director and the national headquarters staff in carrying out these tasks. Recruits and invites membership to meetings with legislators. Part of the Communications Team.

Liaison to State Council

Functions as HRMA liaison to the Garden State Council Society for Human Resource Management, Inc., and assists HRMA President regarding interaction with GSC-SHRM.

Membership

Chaired by Vice-President(s). Manage the membership function to successfully achieve an increase in chapter membership. Guide the activities of the following committees: Membership, Membership Directory, Awards, and Hospitality.

Newsletter and Announcements

Produces the monthly bulletin of HRMA activities, upcoming meetings, events, news of interest to the HR community and notice of the next meeting's speaker and topic. Part of the Communications Team.

Professional Development

Increase the number of chapter members who are certified PHR/SPHR by the Human Resource Certification Institute. Encourage members to become certified. Manage the HCRI recertification credits in order to provide continuing professional development opportunities to advance the profession for our members.

Programs

Chaired by Vice-President(s). Responsible for planning and implementing programs, (featured presentations), at regular meetings, social functions, workshops, and seminars sponsored by HRMA. Also responsible for surveying membership for program topics and items of human resource interest as well as locating and arranging for qualified people to deliver presentations on these subjects.

Public Relations

Manage the marketing and public relations activities of the chapter. Interact with the activities of the following committees to promote chapter events: Compensation, Newsletter, Job Bank, Student Chapter Committee. Keeps press informed of meetings, seminars, and workshops. Provides PR program announcements, and is part of the Communications Team.

School-To-Work / Welfare-To-Work

Monitors and evaluates on a continuing basis local activities concerning school-to-work and welfare-to-work issues and plans and encourages chapter involvement and activities impacting the school-to-work and welfare-to-work arena. Presents a report or update to the chapter president and fellow chapter members. Works in cooperation with state and national level school-to-work and welfare-to-work advocates.

SIG / Networking

Encourages and facilitates networking activities for the organization. Monitors for policy compliance and coordinates electronic communication within the online Special Interest Groups. Committee is part of the Communications Team.

Sponsorship

Identify and acquire sponsors for chapter meetings and events and advertisers for website who are willing to assist the chapter financially in return for an opportunity to promote their product or service to members. Conduct benchmarking and networking activities necessary for creating a viable sponsor program. Serves as the focal point for advertising and coordinates requests and delivery. Implements and monitors compliance with the "HRMA Policy on Advertising and Sponsorships by Members, Vendors and Supporters." Committee is part of the Communications Team.

Student Chapters

Ensures mentorship of the two student chapters forming a liaison between HRMA and the students. Recognizes outstanding student achievement aligned with HRMA professional goals. Manage the scholarship program, internship program, and college outreach efforts.

Transitions

HRMA members in-transition and members whose professional interest is in outplacement, recruitment, staffing, employment agencies, or aligned fields of service. Committee functions to provide members with additional resources, networking opportunities, and support. Also serves to connect members in transition with opportunities presented by employers represented by HRMA membership.

Website Liason

Functions as liaison between HRMA and website provider. Coordinates and ensures timely updates of website. Monitors provider for quality and timeliness. Provides user requirements and oversees website development. Ensures material published on the website adheres to HRMA Board guidelines. Part of the Communications Team.
